Our History
WHEATLAND INDUSTRIES LTD. was founded October 1/1976 by Mr. Norm Hess, a local businessman raised at Elrose, Saskatchewan. Norm owned and operated a large grain and specialty crop farm as well as a professional race car operation.
Norm understood that farming would always require farm equipment. Further, he believed that an area such as the Elrose and surrounding districts, which produced a high percentage of specialty crops, would support and benefit from a dealership prepared to recognize and accommodate the unique needs.
Wheatland Industries began as a White Farm Equipment franchise located down town in a 2400 sq. ft. store with a staff of five including two mechanics, one parts person, an accounting/sales person and Norm Hess as the service manager. Versatile Farm Equipment was added to Wheatland's list of sales contracts in spring 1978.
In the fall of 1978 Wheatland purchased the old Massey Harris facility which was a 3400 sq, ft, building, much better suited for farm equipment sales and repair. Although staffing increased to include three mechanics, one parts person, a bookkeeper and two sales personnel, Wheatland Industries continued to focus in after sales support and were prepared to go the extra mile by modifying existing machines to accommodate the special equipment needs of the area farmers.
To support the on going growth and development of the company, Wheatland Industries purchased five acres of land in the summer of 1981 and constructed a new 5000 sq. ft. facility on Highway #4. The changes resulted in an increase in service and sales staff and an expansion of parts and machine inventories.
During the early 80's, White Farm Equipment experienced a number of receiverships and reorganizations creating hardships for the dealership and devaluing the White Farm Equipment line in the eyes of the general public. In the fall of 1985 Wheatland Industries acquired the New Holland and Ford franchises and eventually discontinued White Farm Equipment in 1986. The subsequent amalgamation of Ford, New Holland and Versatile in the late 1980's and early 1990's provided Wheatland Industries with an exciting full product line to sell and service.
In the summer of 1995, Wheatland Industries opened up a new outlet at Rosetown, Saskatchewan. Rosetown New Holland, a full service dealership, operates twenty-five miles from the parent dealership, Wheatland Industries.
In the winter of 1996, Wheatland Industries expanded its 5000 sq. ft. facility to 12000 sq. ft. in order to provide customers the highest level of service to the latest state of the art equipment. Total staffing is currently in excess of 20 personnel.
Despite changes to facilities and staff, Wheatland Industries and Rosetown New Holland continue to operate under the slogan: "YOUR PARTNERS IN FARM EQUIPMENT SALES AND SERVICE NEEDS".
This was the mind-set of Mr. Norm Hess 22 years ago and it remains true today. Farm Equipment needs are continually changing. Farmers need farm equipment to operate successfully and dealerships have to sell and service farm equipment if they are to succeed. Thus the "Partnership" of mutual benefit.
